ASP.NET Web Forms

Announcement: This forum has been replaced by Visual Studio Developer Community to provide you one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. You can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas in the Visual Studio Developer Community.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of ASP.NET, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!
- The ASP.NET Team

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. EnableViewState ="falseConditional"

    so that it is allowed to deactivate all the viewstate for the all page, except for the controls that have it enabled.
    It would be to change that by default the viewstate comes disabled but for when it is necessary to enable it ..

  3. Add placeholder attribute to textbox

    See the tiltle, example

    TextBox1.Placeholder = "This is the placeholder";

    Now i have to use this code

    TextBox1.Attributes.Add("placeholder", "placeholder"); and it's no going to viewstate...

    Take some innovation to webforms, don't let it die! We like postback, we link event driven programming without js.

    Simplify the way, no controllers, no model !

    Thank you :)

  5. Have UpdatePanels automatically re-attach DOM events bound from jQuery during Postback

    When an update panel does a postback, even if partial. It unbinds all of your DOM events that you set up in jquery. This also applies to JqueryUI like draggable
    i.e. $("#OptionsPanel").draggable({ axis: "y", handle: "p" });
    would stop working after the first postback.

  6. Unwrap webforms from Framework

    and let it be usable on .net core - stop to tell that this is hard work. We don't like MVC and we want new features on our loved event driven framework.

  7. Move js postback script to external file

    Can you provide an option to remove this script?

    var theForm = document.forms['aspnetForm'];
    if (!theForm) {
    theForm = document.aspnetForm;
    }
    function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) {
    if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) {
    theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget;
    theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument;
    theForm.submit();
    }
    }

    With this option we can move that to an external script.

    Thank you

  8. Move ViewState to bottom

    I'd like an option to move the bytes of the viewstate at the bottom of the html. I know that i can do it with some code but it will be more easy with a setting like this in the web.config <page ViewStatePosition="Bottom" ..

    Thanks

  13. Force JQuery via ScriptResourceDefinition on all pages

    Unobtrusive validation for web forms works great, but, only when validation controls are added to a form.
    For other pages that lack validation controls, no reference to the JQuery file is rendered. This causes a conflict on pages that manually have a JQuery reference, as documented at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25791481/load-scriptresourcedefinition-jquery-on-every-page and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21467942/how-do-i-make-scriptresourcedefinition-load-on-all-pages-instead-of-automaticall?lq=1
    Can this be address so that we can force ScriptResourceDefinition to load JQuery regardless of whether validation occurs on a page?

  14. Allow for Add, Delete or Update of Script References in ScriptManager

    Would like to have the ability to add, remove or update a script reference in the script manager, both at asp.net web page as well as code behind, such that the consolidated list, after reconciling the above, should be the ones rendered to the page or used for bundling and minification.

    The reason for this request is, I have a scenario, where I might need a script based on the availability of data. If data is not present, I do not need the javascript to be added. But if it is required, I would need the script to be added.

  15. Make Login Controls work with ASP.NET Identity by default or provide alternative controls that integrate with ASP.NET Identity

    It seems like your new identity framework does not integrate with Web Forms controls. Please add support to existing controls or create new controls that integrate with ASP.NET identity without additional boilerplate code.

  16. dynamicvalidator JavaScript ValidatorValidate

    The dynamicvalidator control seems have a bug in Client side script. When reading the control validators, the dynamic isvalid is always true and errormessage is empty. I have no idea why

    sample code
    var proxied = window.ValidatorValidate;

    window.ValidatorValidate = function () {
    var result = proxied.apply(this, arguments);
    onAfter(arguments);
    };

    var onAfter = function (args) {
    var control = document.getElementById(args[0].controltovalidate)

    var validators = control.Validators;
    var isValid = true;

    for (var i = 0; i < validators.length; i++) {
    if (!validators[i].isvalid) {
    isValid = false;
    break;
    }
    }

  17. Provide an way to easily minify webresource.axd resource data

    Currently it appears that ScriptResource.axd is minified automatically as long as your not in debug mode. Webresource.axd is not. Can you either automatically minify webresource.axd data in release mode or provide another good mechanism to minify (and compress) it? Right now webresource.axd is some of our biggest resources on our pages.

  18. Runat server needs to be built-in to <asp/> controls

    Basically all controls that begin with <asp: /> are required to have the runat attribute. And they all require it to be true. So if this isn't changing anytime soon, why not just make that automatic/built in?

  19. Give the asp:Repeater a DataKeyNames property

    Please add a DataKeyNames property to the asp:Repeater control so that ID values (etc) can be stored/retrieved for each RepeaterItem.
