I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  2. Make the MVP Pattern a 1st Class Citizen

    Make the Model-View-Presenter pattern a 1st class citizen in ASP.NET/Visual studio, to combine the testability of MVC with the benefits of the WebForm abstraction layer.

  3. support multiple runat="server" forms in Web Forms pages

    Allow for Web Forms pages to contain multiple server-side forms rather than just one. This allows for much better accessibility and usability in the pages.

    This type of data-binding system is actually possible to add today thanks to the introduction of the ControlBuilderInterceptor class in .NET 4.5.

  5. Support Razor in aspx pages :)

    It would be a very great future to use Razor and html helpers even in an asp.net aspx project pages. ( not only in mvc project)

  7. Runat server needs to be built-in to <asp/> controls

    Basically all controls that begin with <asp: /> are required to have the runat attribute. And they all require it to be true. So if this isn't changing anytime soon, why not just make that automatic/built in?

  8. Provide an way to easily minify webresource.axd resource data

    Currently it appears that ScriptResource.axd is minified automatically as long as your not in debug mode. Webresource.axd is not. Can you either automatically minify webresource.axd data in release mode or provide another good mechanism to minify (and compress) it? Right now webresource.axd is some of our biggest resources on our pages.

  9. Provide Web Forms Rules Engine similar to InfoPath

    Provide a Web Forms Rules Engine for creating ASP.Net Web Forms that can be completely designed through a User Interface/GUI in a manner similar to InfoPath.

  10. ASPX/ASCX preprocessor

    It would be so nice to have a possibility to apply arbitrary transformations to text content of aspx/ascx files before compiling them. This will open a way for a lot of interesting code-generation techniques.

    For example, it would allow for folks that don't like runat="server" not to write this attribute. Instead of this they would just be able to use a simple transformation that will add this attribute to any tag with a namespace prefix.

  11. Move ViewState to bottom

    I'd like an option to move the bytes of the viewstate at the bottom of the html. I know that i can do it with some code but it will be more easy with a setting like this in the web.config <page ViewStatePosition="Bottom" ..

    Thanks

  12. Give the asp:Repeater a DataKeyNames property

    Please add a DataKeyNames property to the asp:Repeater control so that ID values (etc) can be stored/retrieved for each RepeaterItem.

  13. Auto Format needs to use CSS styles in WebForms

    Current Auto Format option uses ugly in-line server control styling. How about changing this to use CSS classes and client-side CSS styles in a style-sheet instead.

    This is a great idea. We’re looking at ways we might provide this type of functionality out-of-band using NuGet, rather than updating the in-the-box Auto Format tooling as our timelines for the next version don’t allow us to take on such a large item.

  14. Unwrap webforms from Framework

    and let it be usable on .net core - stop to tell that this is hard work. We don't like MVC and we want new features on our loved event driven framework.

  15. datagrid modern HTML/Design and Jquery

    the datagrid Features are quite ok, But the wizards and the generated HTML ist still the 2.0 stuff.
    Webforms is still the fastest way to bring data to the browser. If you dont need full control or tests webforms should get some design improvements, html code optimizations and jquery Background refresh.

    The GridView and ListView controls allow for quite a lot of customization when it comes to what they render. Is your suggestion particularly focusing on the markup generated by the wizards in Visual Studio or the HTML generated by the control at runtime itself?

  16. Move js postback script to external file

    Can you provide an option to remove this script?

    var theForm = document.forms['aspnetForm'];
    if (!theForm) {
    theForm = document.aspnetForm;
    }
    function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) {
    if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) {
    theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget;
    theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument;
    theForm.submit();
    }
    }

    With this option we can move that to an external script.

    Thank you

  18. Add placeholder attribute to textbox

    See the tiltle, example

    TextBox1.Placeholder = "This is the placeholder";

    Now i have to use this code

    TextBox1.Attributes.Add("placeholder", "placeholder"); and it's no going to viewstate...

    Take some innovation to webforms, don't let it die! We like postback, we link event driven programming without js.

    Simplify the way, no controllers, no model !

    Thank you :)

  19. Have UpdatePanels automatically re-attach DOM events bound from jQuery during Postback

    When an update panel does a postback, even if partial. It unbinds all of your DOM events that you set up in jquery. This also applies to JqueryUI like draggable
    i.e. $("#OptionsPanel").draggable({ axis: "y", handle: "p" });
    would stop working after the first postback.
