  1. Support asynchronous child actions

Attempting to use a child action that's marked as "async" in its method declaration results in the error message "HttpServerUtility.Execute blocked while waiting for an asynchronous operation to complete.".

The lack of support for asynchronous child actions makes it extremely easy to deadlock .NET 4.5 code. For example, assume the child action makes a call to an 'async' function. Since the child action can't use async as well, it's forced to "Wait" on the async task and block synchronously.

By default, async methods attempt to use the synchronization context - which is blocked. This means that child actions calling asynchronous…

    • add a default ASP MVC 5 (Microsoft.AspNet.Identity) User Management Package

As per my stackoverflow question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19997949/asp-mvc-5-microsoft-aspnet-identity-user-management-package

I think its a bit silly that we add a brand new way of working with users and roles, but aren't given just a basic default user management controller with the ability to add a role to a user or view the current users.

We used to have this in the membership system and not having it now has the feeling that someone has moved my cheese. Plus, having the ability to view this default controller and views gives the opportunity for us to see the new auth system in action, and provides some…

      • Make 'Find all References' search in MVC Views

For example, let's say I'm working in an ASP.NET MVC project and have a file named AccountDetailsViewModel.cs open in IDE editor. This file contains a class named AccountDetailsViewModel. In this same MVC project, I have an MVC View in AccountDetailsView.cshtml. This View is strongly typed to use the AccountDetailsViewModel object. When I right-click in AccountDetailsViewModel to find all references to this class, the file AccountDetailsView.cshtml does not appear in the results. The reference to the View Model is not discovered in AccountDetailsView.cshtml. Please enhance the "Final all References" search functionality to discover references in ASP.NET view files such as .cshtml,…

          • mixed-mode authentication

It will be nice to have a fully supported and secure way to use forms and windows authentication in the same project. For example let's say that the project has three areas two of which can be managed using windows authentication but one of them can use forms connected to a custom database. In such way the app can support internal users and external users without having to deploy to separate apps.

              • Add support for HTML5 HTML Helpers in ASP.NET MVC

It would be great if you had the ability to use HTML5 together with the built in HTML Helpers in ASP.NET MVC. Being able to use code such as:

                @Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.EmailAddress, InputType.Email, "Placeholder goes here")

                or:

                @Html.Html5Range(1, 100 , 0, 23, null)

There is currently an external open source project maintained on Codeplex (http://mvchtml5.codeplex.com/) that does this, however it would be great to have this functionality available in Visual Studio by default.

Being able to support HTML5 elements such as input types and video/audio elements would be great.

                - Color
                - Email
                - Search
                - Time
                -…

                  • open source the project templates

Open source the project templates or move them to nuget packages, but let the community fork them or extend them or make it easier to get into the new project dialog... its holding us back.

                        • Better implementation on SimpleMembershipProvider

We want better implementation of SimpleMembershipProvider that is not related to Sql server so we can use NoSql databases.
We also want implementation that is not that complex and that reference bunch of dlls (DotNetOAuth is very over complex library to do simple stuff)

We are actively working on a replacement of membership in general in ASP.NET. This work will solve the issues that you are bringing up, expect to see it in the Spring of 2013.

We are not sure about removing DotNetOAuth yet. We don’t want to write our own implementation of OAuth when there are community versions that exist today. But we will see what we can do

                          • Many to Many Scaffolding. Populate code with check-boxes in create and edit views when there's relations between two tables.

Whenever there are two tables that have many-to-many relationship, (i.e. Students - Teachers) need automatic code creation with scaffolding will allow Create View to show check-boxes within a form, and a controller should be able to save selected check-boxes for that model.

                            • Slow websites sucks, win quick pages. Generate static websites

A huge overhead is needed for the simplest Web pages: NET Framework, SQL Server, OR-Mapper and countless tools. The application pool is automatically discharged and visitors have to wait until the Web and SQL servers are awakened. Thus, small websites lose a few visitors.

Static Web pages are 100 x better performance than dynamic Web pages.
please provide a way to generate static-Websites (or partly static) from cshtml.

I don't think I need to explain that one. But just in case we have DropDownListFor, why there's no RadioButtonListFor?

                                    • Feature to add: ASP.NET MVC Route Debugger

That would be nice to introduce something like "MVC debugging mode" to ASP.NET MVP project. In this mode developer will see some extended details about MVC application state like routes table and so on.

To understand better what I mean - please look at these 2 posts:

                                      • AllowHtml for action parameters

Support action parameters as a target of the AllowHtmlAttribute.

Currently when you have a lightweight action where a couple of parameters are sufficient, but need to allow html, then your only option is to wholesale ValidateInput(false) on the entire request rather than being able to apply [AllowHtml] on the one parameter.

                                        • Add Visual-Studio support for syntax-highlighting a custom file extension with razor & css syntax

Right now, with a bit of thinkering in web.config and a custom RazorViewEngine, it is possible to register the ".rcss" file extension and have razor serve these files just like .cshtml files.

This is useful because it allows e.g. Server.MapPath or Url.Content in css files. Also I can write css and make a simple @if, for example to exclude one of the many styles that cause IE8 to malfunction, without having to start syncing 2 different files...

However, there is no freaking visual studio support. Either one sets it as web form, and then it has problems because in a…
