  1. Make login reasonably intuitive

This isn't the first time I've had trouble logging in from a new machine. It wants a user name, not an email address. So, I click the link to "log in or register with a Microsoft account" but only have the option to register, not log in. So, when I enter my email address, it says it's already associated with an account, but I can't use it to log in! Cmon Microsoft. I'm kind of a computer wizard. How can I find it challenging to log into your website?

  2. Provide a Badge of Honor

As described here http://forums.asp.net/t/2090041.aspx I find it a good idea to show off on a personal website the recognition one gained on the ASP.NET forums. This can be cached on a daily basis or for ... hours upon a request.

  4. Start an asp.net search engine that shows results from all the asp.net resource portals.

Start an asp.net search engine that shows results from all the asp.net resource portals but topping asp.net forum results.

The search engine should not have any strings like registration, just plain open search.

Stackoverflow became a hit just because google de ranked most of the results from asp.net forum. 4 years ago asp.net forum ranked top in google without any meta tags. It was so active and interesting.

But mostly programmers go to google to search first and then they go to stackoverflow. The first 3 positions in the search engine gets the visitor, interaction and answers.

    programmers including myself…

  8. Send a notification by e-mail to report new forum thread in favorites

Update often the preferred forum page to view new thread. It would be better to be notified by e-mail

  9. Star a thread and get notifications on the site instead of sending emails

My inbox is already getting way too much emails from different si(d/t)es so I would like to keep that down. I just want to track a thread which is not mine and in which I did not participate.

For notification purposes one can see a notification just like seeing a notification for a new private mesasge.

  10. Consider cashing in on Stack Overflow

The fora are for Tech Support and Discussion on Products.

I used to use them a lot, but stack overflow upset that. I now find that Stack-Overflow, is often fairly bad. It's not curated well. Problems include:
    1) Wrong answers voted most highly. (Often these are old.)
    2) Only old answers are present though the technology has moved on.
    3) Useful information is repeated in various answers so it takes time to consolidate it.

    I suggest as follows:

    1) Bring in StackOverflow content.
    2) Construct material based on that, but integrated, and up to date.
    3) Curate the material on…

  11. Maintain the Community Recognition / Hall of Fame Stats

I'm not active like I used to be but I've invested 100's and 100's of hours into those forums over the years.

I didn't do it for the points, I did it for the experience and in that respect it provided amply.

However as I built up the score I do use it as a point of pride. It's on my CV and other bios that I've written.

I know everything fades away in time but it would be a shame for all that to be lost in a new system.

If it's decided that it can't be incorporated into…

  13. Enable Post Subscriptions for all threads I start or reply to.

If I create a post or reply to another's post, I want/need the ability to automatically subscribe to that topic.

Every time I post on forums.asp.net (whether I create the new topic or reply to someone else's), I have to go up to the top to click "Subscribe via Email".

Even if I have clicked to "Subscribe via Email" once and I get an email that I follow, now I am no longer subscribed to updates. My subscription gets turned off.

What is the point in posting a question or asking how someone did something if I never get a…

  14. Make posting new questions easier

Posting a question in these forums takes time , unlike stackoverflow that allow multiple authentications and make it east to post question and follow it .

  15. Career path guide

Most of the visitors to this site are developers or wanna-be developers. There are numerous times when I have looked for paths to take or stuff to learn to keep myself updated in my current career role.
I wish you have some kind of career path based learning mode where we can customize what we see based on what we want to learn.

  17. Don't Let Users Mark Their Own Post As The Answer Or Change the Point System

Some users post what they did, and it's exactly what an answer-er told them to do. In the end maybe this is a change that needs to be made to the point system.

  18. More "Tech Support" from Microsoft DEV teams

Have Microsft ASP DEV team members do a "required" stint every few weeks looking through ASP.NET for questions that can be answered. It would also help them in their "real" job in knowing where to concentrate DEV efforts...
