Use Stack Overflow and GitHub
The current forum serves two purposes:
1. Technical Support
2. Product Feedback and DiscussionForum software are optimized for discussions and not for technical support or product feedback. What is optimized for these are:
1. Q & A software
2. Issue Tracking softwareBecause of that and network effect:
1. Stack Overflow is the defacto place for quality Q & A.
2. GitHub/Bitbucket etc. are where developers expect to give feedback, right next to where the code is.My recommendation is to:
1. Put the ASP.NET forum into read only mode.
2. Move all current support staff to answer Stack…117 votesreopening, as this was closed in error

Please bring in more professionals as those star members can't handle most advance problems
The pattern in which most stars in the forum is answering some questions is very annoying, they make it difficult for someone to get the right solutions, they are more interested in you making their unrealistic and unapplicable answers . They talk to users who came to look for solutions as if they are professionals like them. Many unanswered and half answered questions on this forum have been well answered on other forum.

Rewards
After getting some points like 5000, 10000, 15000 points on the website, you can provide the T-SHIRTS with the asp.net website logo and ship to the members who are posting the answers on the forum.

Allow comments to a post
All too often one sees several replies to a thread which simply ask for more code or something similar. This could rather become a comment on the original post. Please provide the possibility for a moderator to make a reply a comment.

Ideas to make Asp.Net Forums better
1. Code Implementation
Direct implementation of the code using few different kinds of editors should available on Asp.Net Forum. So that user can directly write the small line of the code and execute it and share it.
2. Comment System
One Comment section should available on every answer as well as question, which must not be mark as answer. It should be only for better understanding of the question or answer or getting the more info regarding the issue.
3. Option to Vote for Answer
There should be a “Thumbs UP” option for every answer where user can vote for…

advertise forums.asp.net
Microsoft could do more to direct people to forums.asp.net.
via Google, search "site:microsoft.com forums.asp.net" (without the quotes).
one result, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa286485.aspx does not highlight the existing of forums.asp.net even though that page would be a perfect page to advertise forums.asp.net.
Also, near the bottom of each MSDN page, we see

-- Blogs
-- CodeplexWHY NOT add:
-- forums.asp.net
-- forums.iis.net8 votes -
Improve Search Functionality
Hello Team,
The current search functionality is very horrible and not give the exact results based on the keywords.
We are not able to search/find what exactly we want to know.
Also, please have a thought for speeding search functionality.

Use Discourse forum software
Throw away your proprietary (read: slow and user-unfriendly) forum software and migrate everything to Discourse.

Better separation of compatible technology.
I cant even count the number of times I have been reading about something and tried to dive in and explore only to later learn that the demo/tutorial/example is not compatible with my dev environment. One great example is SignalR when it was first released. Then there were updates that were not compatible with earlier demos. The same holds for Q and A in the support area. Its really tough to get the vitals up front. How many times have users posted a question about a Gridview, and gotten and excellent response and example back but for a DataGridview. And…

Short text messages
My idea is to send short text messages to member's phones using SMS to eMail gateways. This would work similar to how we get email alerts now except an SMS message with a short link to the topic in question.

Keyword searches within my own posts OR answers
It would be nice to have keyword searches just in my own posts OR my own answers. As a caveat to this, in Visual Studio, it would be nice to be able to search by code type, code behind page (only), ASP inline page (aspx/asmx) include or exclude in search, and skip comments or include them by check box flag.

Open UpVoting to Every Answer, Let User Decides
https://forums.asp.net/t/1492192.aspx?How+to+disable+resize+grip+on+multiline+textbox+
Hope The Forum can let every answer can be up voted decided by viewer like stackoverflow, sometimes I see good answer that's not marked as answer is useful, but i can't upvote it.

Ring the Bell on a question if its not answered or solved
Ask a question, it gets attention the first day or 2. From there? usually nothing ever again. Ask a new follow up question and its deleted by zealous moderators as being a duplicate because it has the same words like software or c# in both posts. So the follow up question is gone.
You can post and ask and post and ask in the original question. silence. nothing. I may as well ask my cat for the answer, the information is posted and no replies. So the suggestion is to add some indicator that will signal the question is not…
