www.asp.net website

Announcement: This forum has been replaced by Visual Studio Developer Community to provide you one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. You can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas in the Visual Studio Developer Community.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve the ASP.NET website, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!

How can we improve the www.asp.net website?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  2. Weblogs - Add a contact form like the one we had at before the migration to Orchard

We had a contact form at http://weblogs.asp.net/xxxx/contact.aspx
Please restore that. Please make the old URL work so that existing links to the contact page continue to work.

  5. Fixes for asp.net(VB) security tutorials

I've worked through your security tutorials and noticed a few bugs along the way. I've left comments below the tutorials with bugs detailing what the bug is and how to fix.
I also noticed some people asking for advice from the author in the comments section but there is never a response. So I would either ensure authors are notified when commenta appear under their articles or make it abundantly clear in the comments sections that the author woin't be reading your comment so you're relying on the good will of other folks(which seems pretty thin on the ground looking…

It is currently crashing when clicking the "Go" button with username 'fred'.

    Thanks for looking into this.

  12. Make Reply as helpful

As msdn forums has this feature, use the same here. So that user can know how many persons get the help from the particular reply/post.

  15. Overview section should have dedicated content

As I understand it, the Overview section should be the first thing the newcomer (me :) should read (if he doesn't want to view the video which I don't). But the Overview section is just a collection of links and for instance after reading the first 5 articles, I have read a description of a controller too many times. I think a dedicated content would be in place.

  16. pull data from various social sources

a twitter feed that searches for asp.net topics. top or new asp.net stack overflow questions.

a section on new nuget packages or updates.

have some kind of rep system for voting on articles and writing styles of community content.

pull data in from ohloh on .NET OSS projects.

create spaces for .NET user groups and allow users to search for these groups.

bring some xbox love to the site. Allow a way for developers to connect and play each other online form teams. Then maybe have some redmond groups take on some of the .NET user groups or other dev…

  18. Ability to use tab to "highlight" the rows

Many of us use the tab key to rip through the topics on the main page, we can't tell which one is selected when tabbing through the items.

  20. Change to forum by publishing REST API

You definitely need to create a REST service to allow access to forum question in a programmatic way. That way we can have custom apps as well as Windows Phone 7 apps where we can read, post and update questions and answers.
